Construction and design

Asus has done a fantastic job of analyzing gamers’ demands and producing devices to meet them. The Zen Book and Vivo Book series are basic in design, while the ROG line is all about RGB. With the TUF series, Corporate has adopted a more understated approach, introducing a discreet yet gamer-friendly design. The laptop’s chassis is made completely of hard plastic, which does not feel as sturdy as the manufacturer advertises.

As a result, the TUF A15 is no slouch when it comes to that. It passed the Military Grade MIL-STD 810H certification, which means it can endure a few drops and the user may even turn off their gaming frenzy on it.

The laptop chassis, on the other hand, is composed of hard plastic and does not feel as strong as the manufacturer advertises. A wired flex connects the display board to the rest of the system. During my time with the gadget, intense typing or gaming while holding an essential hand caused the display to waver a lot. Not only was it inconvenient, but it was also aggravating.

The honeycomb pattern and airflow vents between the two hinges are two design elements you’ll like. Both of these features contributed to the laptop’s ability to stay cool even when used for extended periods of time. The industrial design of the Asus TUF Gaming A15 is simple.

Although its engraved logo and “riveted” corners may not appeal to everyone and may raise some eyes in a stuffy boardroom, this laptop is commonly used for gaming. It has a modest geometric pattern on the palm rest and more broadly appealing brushed-style textures when it is opened. In the meantime, the top bezel is rather thick and houses a high-definition webcam. The RGB keyboard more than compensates for the dark and subdued aesthetic.

The WASD keys are entirely translucent since the sides and letters of each key are lit. The keys on the Scrabble tiles are well-balanced and comfortable to type on for long periods of time. A full number pad with significantly thinner keys, as well as smaller arrow keys, are included.

The trackpad is accurate and smooth, and beneath it are two separate, well-weighted buttons. A 240Hz IPS panel might be used, which offers incredibly fluid gameplay for shooters and racing with minimum ghosting or blur. It becomes extremely bright, yet the detail in the highlights is lost at maximum brightness.

It’s not a million miles away from feeling like HDR, though. Furthermore, the brightness helps highlight details in dark regions, making it tough for adversaries to hide in shadows. Few will be dissatisfied by what’s on offer here, though, thanks to rich colors and a dynamic screen. Overall, the Asus TUF Gaming A15 is attractive and enjoyable to use.

The battery’s durability

The Asus TUF A15 outperforms the competition here, with the PC Mark 10 battery life benchmark, which simulates moderate use, taking five and a half hours to empty the battery. That’s a good thing for a gaming laptop, and it’s thanks in part to the AMD Ryzen 7 4800H’s energy efficiency, which uses less power than the more power-hungry Intel CPUs featured in many of these laptops.

The battery here is a whopping 90Wh, resulting in an impressive 11 hours and 44 minutes of uptime in our looped 1080p video benchmark.

While playing a repeated video isn’t the most difficult endeavor, the TUF A15’s survival is very remarkable. However, depending on the sort of game being played, the uptime reduces to roughly two hours when it comes to gaming. That’s still fantastic, and it’ll get you through a short train journey. You will, however, need to plug this in while gaming, as with other gaming laptops.

Audio

The audio from the speakers on the left and right sides of the deck is clear and accurate. Gunshots and conversation, including distant voices, were crisp and precise when I boosted the volume in Battlefield V, but gunshots did not bang as loudly or ominously as on other gaming laptops.

The sounds of grenades exploding provided the proper crescendo, but they lacked the intensity and bass to completely immerse me. I tried using the Shooter audio profile option in the supplied DTS: X Ultra program (which has seven pre-configured profiles and an EQ), but there was no noticeable difference. I experienced a similar experience with music.

Despite the fact that I was in a small flat, Joyner Lucas’ “Lotto” sounded crisp and accurate, yet it was way too quiet for partying. The instruments in the background music become more vivid and layered when switching to external speakers. Additionally, with a stereo headset and the laptop’s DTS:X technology, you may enjoy 7.1 simulated surround sound.

While having better audio on a low-cost pair of headphones is good, many of the most basic gaming headsets incorporate virtual surround sound.

Software and a warranty

Along with the normal Windows 10 garbage, Asus offers a few useful utilities, such as Candy Crush Friends, Farm Heroes Saga, Groove Music, and Xbox programs. My Asus may be used as a system diagnostic tool, and Asus Armoury Crate can show you system information like CPU and RAM usage.

Windows, Silent (lower than 35dB for light workloads and enjoyment), Performance (default, less than 40dB), and Turbo are among the fan settings available on the Armoury Crate (no restrictions).

A graph depicts the benefits and drawbacks in terms of cooling, noise reduction, and other factors. You’ll also set up the app so that your smartphone may control PC settings. Advanced GPU settings such as anti-aliasing mode and texture filtering quality are accessible via toggles and drop-down menus in AMD Radeon Settings Lite.

You also include DTS Sound Unbound for use with linked stereo headphones and virtual surround sound, as well as the aforementioned DTS Headphones audio software (see the Audio section below).

Experiential Education

Let’s start with the durability of the ASUS TUF Gaming A15, as the name contains the word “TUF.” To be absolutely honest, that was the first thing we did after unboxing it, so you can see the results in the review video (when it becomes available).

The laptop is slightly heavier than the majority of other gaming laptops on the market when held up. When the laptop lid is closed, there is no flexing at all, which is a wonderful thing. The display area of the laptop flexes slightly when opened, although not excessively. You’re not going to flex your screen on purpose.

Even when I press down strongly on the keyboard, it flexes very little. During boss fights, it holds its own against annoying opponents, and we’re happy it can take an arrow (to the key). The key travel distance on the A15 makes typing a breeze. Despite the fact that it is not a mechanical keyboard, it has a satisfyingly subtle click sound and a tactile sensation.

I like how the keyboard has FN shortcuts for important functions like toggling between Silent and Performance modes (FN + F5) and modifying Aura RGB settings (FN + Arrow Keys).

Asus could have made the trackpad a little bigger, even though it is normal size. It’s a touch choppy while scrolling, but given how young it is, I’m sure it’ll smooth out over time.

Overall, using the ASUS TUF Gaming A15 as my daily laptop was a pleasant experience. It performs well in common writing and online browsing chores. A seamless gaming experience is ensured by the 144Hz refresh rate display. Furthermore, when I transfer it from location to location while working from home, it does not break my wrist.

Ports

The TUF A15 comes with a large number of ports. On the left, there are two USB 3.2 Type-A ports, an HDMI input, a USB Type-C port, a headphone/microphone connector, and an RJ-45 Ethernet port for a fast and dependable wired internet connection, which is critical for gaming. A USB 2.0 port and a Kensington lock slot are located on the left side.

There is no SD card slot, however it did not worry us because the port selection is excellent.

Summary of Asus TUF A15 AMD 5th Gen

The Asus TUF A15 is one of the company’s newest laptops, having recently been announced as part of the company’s gaming device line. The TUF series is intended at budget gamers, but the TUF A15 shines in other areas as well. It blends a premium feel with outstanding performance at an unbeatably low price (for a gaming laptop).

In compared to the previous generation TUF series laptops, the firm updated their naming strategy and refreshed the design this year. Asus made things a little easier this year by introducing the TUF A15 and A17, the former having a 15.6-inch display and the latter with a 17-inch panel.

The gamer mood, as well as several features like Adaptive Sync, bring out even the most basic graphical activities.

The ASUS TUF A15 is, without a doubt, one of the most straightforward options for entry-level gaming.
